Turmeric and Liver Toxicity - 2024Updated 2 months ago

Thank you for reaching out! With the recent reports regarding turmeric supplementation and liver toxicity, MegaFood conducted a thorough review of available research data. Not only is there no clear evidence that turmeric, or its main active compound curcumin, are hepatotoxic, several studies report beneficial liver support from modest amounts of the ingredient. Contrary to headlines, the study Estimated Exposure to 6 Potentially Hepatotoxic Botanicals in US Adults - PMC (nih.gov) does not investigate a causal relationship between consuming these botanical supplements and liver damage, nor does it add any new scientific findings with respect to their potential for hepatotoxicity.
