MegaFood offers one low-dose melatonin formula called Melatonin Sleep Gummies, which is a 3mg product crafted for adult use ONLY.  (Note that we recently discontinued Extra Strength Sleep) As a sleep-support ingredient, melatonin is safe and efficacious when used as directed. In fact, it has a long history of safe use, for both adults and children.

While MegaFood does not offer any melatonin products recommended for children at this time, it is always important to consult with your child's health care practitioner if you are considering giving them melatonin, and always select products intended for pediatric use. 

Regarding the concern of excess melatonin, the FDA's regulation of dietary supplements requires companies to ensure that the products they sell meet 100% of label claim through the end of the product's shelf life. Active ingredients like vitamins, minerals, and other nutraceuticals can degrade over time. To ensure this potency, companies will include an appropriate and safe amount of ingredient overage to ensure each ingredient meets label claims over time given the natural degradation that occurs.  This is determined for all ingredients in dividually given their safety, upper limits, function in the body, etc. For this reason, overages are both common in supplements and permitted by the FDA. 

And, as with any supplement, products should be kept out of reach of young children to avoid unintended ingestion.
