Magnesium 300 Formula Change - September 2024Updated 2 months ago

Q: Did the MegaFood 300 formula change? Is silicon dioxide safe to use?

A: As part of our MegaFood Credible, Clean and Conscious Brand Standards we work to guarantee potency in all our products. Therefore, our Magnesium 300 product has undergone some manufacturing improvements as we ensure consistent quality standards and better service the increased demand for the many health benefits Magnesium delivers.

As we strive to consistently improve, we are beginning to use a denser malate ingredient that offers the same potency as our original malate. This denser malate is the same ingredient and just a smaller particle size. This means it weighs more while taking up less space, ensuring you receive the correct dosage and reducing the risk of manufacturing errors.

Because the malate is taking up less space, our capsules now have some air space. The variations in fill appearance do not affect product quality, safety or potency.

Additionally, as part of the manufacturing process, certain agents are used to facilitate the running of the product. These inactive ingredients do not impact supplement potency, efficacy, or safety. Our Mag 300 product's active ingredient (the magnesium source) and the use of spinach have not changed (our formula is the same).

Because trace amounts of silicon dioxide are used to aid processing, we began temporarily declaring it on the label under the "other ingredients" section. MegaFood always does what is right in full transparency of labeling. Be assured that silicon dioxide can be safely used in foods. It can be safely used in amounts up to 9,000 mg/kg body weight (bw) per day. This product contains 12 mg per serving, which is less than 0.1% of the amount that has been shown to be safe. ą

Q. Are the Magnesium 300 labels going to fully change to include silicon dioxide on the label for all bottles?

A: We understand the confusion and concern the addition of silicon dioxide to our Magnesium 300 labels has caused and we are making changes. Moving forward, we will not be using “silicon dioxide” as an “other ingredient”. Based on FDA Regulatory guidelines for labeling, because it is used at insignificant levels and has no functional effect in our finished product, it is accurate to not list it on the label.

Silicon dioxide is a manufacturing aid widely across the vitamin and mineral supplement industry.

It is used to prevent clumping during the manufacturing process. There are no safety concerns with this ingredient and the amount used in the malate ingredient.

Silicon dioxide is safely used in foods in amounts up to 9,000 mg/kg body weight (bw) per day.

MegaFood Magnesium 300 uses less than 0.1% (12 mg per serving) of the amount that has been shown to be safe.

Q. Why do our Magnesium 300 capsules look like they are not as full?

A: To further improve our products, we’ve sourced a new Magnesium malate that offers the same potency but with a higher density. This means it weighs more while taking up less space, ensuring you receive the correct dosage and reducing the risk of manufacturing errors with overfilled capsules. Rest assured that we test every product to ensure the exact same specifications, quality standards, and potency.

We want to keep you informed that when producing supplements, there can be minor variation in color and size of our raw ingredients from batch to batch. Rest assured, these minor variations do not affect product quality; in fact, we are always striving to enhance quality.

Thank you for your understanding and support!

Q. Why can the appearance of product vary?

A . Minor variations in the color and size of our raw ingredients can occur from batch to batch. For example, spinach naturally varies from crop to crop, and as such, raw ingredient color can vary from batch to batch. Rest assured, these minor variations do not affect product quality; in fact, we are always striving to enhance quality.
