Is MegaFood regulated? Are supplements regulated?Updated 2 months ago

Dietary supplements are regulated by both the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

The FDA regulates the types of ingredients allowed in dietary supplements, the types of claims that can be made about an ingredient and/or a product, and also has detailed requirements for the manufacturing and labeling of dietary supplements.

Together with the FDA, the FTC oversees advertising and marketing, which means that the FTC looks at the truth and accuracy of any claims that are made on TV, radio, and print ads, as well as social media and online marketing to insure that any claims made about supplements are truthful and not misleading.

When critics say dietary supplements are “unregulated,” what they generally mean is that dietary supplements are not regulated like drugs. Dietary supplements have always been regulated as a category of food in the US. Virtually all facets of dietary supplement manufacturing, labeling and marketing are covered by extensive regulations issued and enforced by the FDA and FTC.
