Heavy Metal, Lead, Prop 65, and COA requestsUpdated 2 months ago

Thank you so much for reaching out and for your interest in the quality of our products — we truly appreciate customers who care as much as we do.
We completely understand how important it is to feel confident in the safety and integrity of the products you use, and we take that responsibility very seriously.
Our Quality Assurance team follows a comprehensive and rigorous testing protocol to ensure that every product meets our high standards for identity, purity, and safety. This includes:

  • Verifying the identity and purity of all raw ingredients
  • Screening for potential contaminants such as pesticides, herbicides, heavy metals, and microbiological agents
  • Performing quality checks throughout the entire manufacturing process

For example, and to provide transparency, here are the testing thresholds we follow for heavy metals:

  • Total Arsenic: < 10 mcg/day
  • Cadmium: < 4.1 mcg/day
  • Total Mercury: < 0.3 mcg/day
  • Lead: < 0.5 mcg/day

If you still are interested in receiving a Certificate of Analysis, please provide the lot # present on your product, and our team will work to get that to you!

Are your products Prop 65 compliant?
Yes!

All consumer products sold in California must comply with California’s Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act, better known as Proposition 65 (“Prop 65”). Prop 65 is a consumer information law requiring California consumers to be informed if certain chemicals are present in products they purchase, or in their homes or workplaces, or that are released into the environment. By requiring that this information be provided, Proposition 65 enables Californians to make informed decisions about their exposure to chemicals known to the State of California to have safety risks including cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm.

Because of lead’s natural occurrence and ubiquity, one of the most significant impacts of Prop 65 on companies like MegaFood is Prop 65’s requirement that consumers be informed if a consumer product can cause a lead exposure at levels as low as 0.5 micrograms of lead per day. For more information about Proposition 65, please go to the OEHHA website at: https://oehha.ca.gov/proposition-65

While Prop 65 is a California law requiring that companies inform consumers about these substances, the FDA is the regulatory body responsible for assuring the food safety of the nation’s dietary supplements. FDA uses a science based approach tapping into global scientific resources. Regarding lead, FDA has set a maximum reference level of 3 µg per day for children, and 12.5 µg per day for adults. These levels are nearly ten times lower than the intake levels required to reach a point of concern per CDC’s scientific research.
