Brewer's yeast is a term applied to S. cerevisiae - typically harvested after the brewing process has been completed (thus depleted of several nutrients).

The S. cerevisiae we use is a primary grown yeast that has not been used before, with all of its nutrients intact. Otherwise they are the same genus species.
