When it comes to crafting supplements to support your health and well-being, we know that starting with real food and regenerative grown ingredients is very important, but there is also more to a high quality supplement.
The care we take about what does go into your supplements is the same care we take ensuring what doesn’t.
With food allergy awareness becoming more common, it is important that we not only commit to the utmost clarity in labeling, but work hard to ensure the most common allergens - those the FDA refers to as the Big 9 - are not present in our products. These major allergens include milk, egg, peanut, tree nuts, soybean, wheat, fish, crustacean shellfish, and sesame.
The only exception to this is our fish oil products, which are produced by a manufacturing partner in a specialized facility. Our in-house manufacturing facility remains fish-free.
We also control for mustard and mollusks, as this is required for our friends in Canada.
It is required by law to list on the label if any of these allergens are present at any level in the product. If allergens are present in the product they will always be listed on the label. Additionally, we have a policy in place to avoid common allergens altogether. To learn more about the measures we take to verify these allergens are not present in MegaFood products, read on!
MegaFood Allergen Control System
To ensure all MegaFood finished products are gluten free and do not contain milk, egg, peanut, tree nuts, soybean, wheat, fish, crustacean shellfish, sesame, mustard or mollusks, we utilize the following FDA-validated practices:
- No allergens or gluten-containing ingredients are permitted to be purchased, by company policy.
- All new ingredients and suppliers are qualified through a comprehensive review process, including written verifications that no allergens or gluten is contained in the ingredient.
- A comprehensive Food Safety Plan is in place that exceeds dietary supplement industry requirements and meets food industry best practices.
- NSF third-party verified internal Food Safety and Quality Systems.
Contract Manufacturer partners who use allergens or gluten-containing ingredients must:
- Have a formal written program in place for allergen control.
- Enact a control point for verifying that processing equipment has been cleaned adequately, specifically that no allergenic residue is present prior to manufacturing non-allergen containing products.
Additionally, all Co-manufacturers must:
- Have their Food Safety systems qualified on-site by MegaFood Quality personnel.
- Hold 3rd party GMP certification.
In rare cases, we work with contract manufacturers that handle allergens in their facilities. In such instances, each lot is assayed for allergen proteins, and release occurs only after confirming that levels are non-detectable.
Your health, well-being, and safety are priority number one. If you have additional allergen concerns, the supplement facts panel is your best resource for determining if a product is suitable for you.
